The Lillooet Chamber would like to congratulate the District of Lillooet on the creation of the new Zoning Bylaw. This new zoning bylaw reflects a clear commitment to supporting our local businesses, encouraging investment, and enabling more permissive land use that aligns with Lillooet’s economic future.

The Zoning Bylaw allows for more development, supports businesses with more flexible definitions, and sends a clear signal that Lillooet is ready for real investment on housing and infrastructure.

While it has taken quite a long time for this bylaw to be finalized, we want to also congratulate the District on the way this bylaw has been developed. The District was committed to public engagement and hearing from stakeholders such as ourselves and the public. The District was also open to listen to feedback and implemented suggestions while compromising on others in a clear and transparent way. This is a model for how to do public engagement and we encourage the District to carry this model for all their bylaws and budgets.

The next step for our Chamber is to see this Zoning Bylaw effectively implemented. This Zoning Bylaw should encourage more investment and attract new businesses to Lillooet. We hope that our Chamber can be helpful with this effort and help spread the message that Lillooet is “Open for Business”.
